DARIUS JOSEPH STANDS OUT AT NGC NATIONAL JUVENILE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

Darius Joseph emerged as a standout on day one of the NGC National Juvenile Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday. The Eastonians athlete secured two gold medals.

Joseph dominated his rivals in the boys' under-14 80 metres hurdles, winning the final in a championship record 12.74 seconds, bettering the 12.92 standard he had established in the preliminary round. Antwon Frederick clocked 13.46 to pick up silver.

In the boys' under-14 100m final, Joseph stopped the clock at 12.21 seconds to claim gold, ahead of Naeem Nelson (12.47) and Cayson Clement-Hamilton (12.50).

Cyril Sumner produced a gutsy run to grab gold in the boys' under-14 400m final. Keston Chase looked to be in control halfway through the one-lap race. But Sumner fought gallantly, the Memphis Pioneers athlete eventually overhauling Chase at the finish line to win in 55.52 seconds. Chase clocked 55.66, and had to settle for silver.
