2016 FORM 1 INTERCLASS FOOTBALL

Our competition was held on Monday December 12, 2016. All five classes were very well represented. Students were excited and did not fail to impress. Rivalry was fierce and intense. Under the stewardship of Mr. Peter Cummins, we had a most professional tournament.
 

The following is a brief description of each game as it unfolded:

Game 1: 1-25 (3) vs. 1-34 (0)

Both teams started a bit scratchy as it was the first game of the competition. However, 1-25 soon found their groove and was able to put three goals past 1-34.
 

Game 2: 1-31 (1) vs. 1-33 (7)
1-33 was just too good for 1-31 to handle. Boasting of players Abdul-Quddoos Hypolite, Giovanni Warner and Romario Nelson they fired seven past 1-31. In response, 1-31 could have only mustered one.
 

Game 3: 1-32 (1) vs. 1-25 (1)
This was a game in which both teams were evenly matched. At the final whistle it ended one apiece. Our first draw!!!
 

Game 4: 1-31 (1) vs. 1-34 (3)
Both teams entered this game winless and each was keen to get some points. However, at the end 1-34 emerged 3-1 winners.
 

Game 5: 1-25 (2) vs. 1-33 (2)
1-25 would have started this game wary of the attacking prowess of 1-33. Both teams were undefeated so far. At the end, it remained so as they played to a 2 all draw.
 

Game 6: 1-34 (1) vs. 1-32 (4)
At this stage of the tournament, teams were beginning to consider points. 1-34 was fully aware of this as they were 2 points ahead of 1-32. Victory would have shot them up the table. However, this was not to be as 1-32 came out fast and attacking securing full points.
 

Game 7: 1-25 (4) vs. 1-31 (1)
1-31 entered this game winless and keen to get a positive result. At the end 1-25 proved too strong for them. 1-31 still yet to win a game.
 

Game 8: 1-34 (1) vs. 1-33(3)
Having seen 1-33 play to a draw in their last game, 1-34 would have fancied their chances against their opponents. This did not materialize as 1-33 scored 3 goals in response to 1-34’s lone piece.
 

Game 9: 1-31 (3) vs. 1-32 (4)
Entering the penultimate game of the tournament, 1-31 was playing for pride having lost all their games thus far. They did not disappoint as they came out firing on all guns. Matthew Scott (1-31) had the best goal of the tournament with a curling left footer that ended in the top right hand corner of the net! In the last minute of the game Zico Correia (1-31) converted a penalty which brought the game to 3 apiece. 1-31 celebrations were wild as they surely felt they would have ended the tournament with at least a draw. Their celebrations were soon short lived as in the dying seconds, Darius Joseph fired a stinger that ended in the back of the net. 1-32 had won!!!
 

Game 10: 1-32 (0) vs. 1-33 (2)
This was the last game of the tournament. Both teams were on seven points. 1-25 was also very interested in the result of this game as they were on 8 points having played their four games. A draw would have meant 1-33 winning the tournament with a superior goal difference. A win for 1-32 meant they would be crowned champions and 1-25 ending as runners up. This effectively became a final! The game was intense from the start taking a toll on 1-32’s custodian Aiden Persad who had to be substituted for Leandro Lares. Entering the second half, 1-33 was a goal up. This did not deter 1-32 who were all attack. Their star striker Darius Joseph fired a shot that would have surely tied the game if not for the superb defense of Hunter Young Sing. 1-33 eventually ended the game as 2 nil winners and in the process winning the tournament!!!
